Post exams activities

by Leion on Nov.29, 2005, under General

Today is the first day I tried to get back to do my FYP.
But first, I went for a swim with KC at NTU. It has been like 2 or 3 months since I last swam. I have to spend quite some time to look for my swimming trunks, resulting me turning up late. The few months of non swimming has rendered me having aches in my tigh muscles. I end up swimming for 10 lengths though I had initially planned to swim 20. I suspect I will get some serious ache tomorrow.

After swimming, I went and weigh myself. It is an astonishing 61.3kg. I was never over 60kg in weight. The spare tire is the reason for my weight increase and the reason I get this spare tire is my exams. Yes. I was overeating and having 0 exercise while I was trying to squeeze information for the exams into my brain. Only my tummy get bigger, not my brain.

Anyway, after lunch, I went back to school and tried to do some work my my FYP. I was too sleepy after exercise to be able to do serious work. Hope I get to do more work tomorrow.. I need to finish up a incomplete game by the end of this week.

Hope I can do it….
And, I need to swim and jog more. I want to get back to my 60- kg weight…

Sitex 2005

by Leion on Nov.27, 2005, under General

I went with my group of buddies.

The place is full of people. It seems everyone is going there to get something )

I have one aim – to get a bag for my laptop.

And I found it.

I suffered $23 damage for it. The promotor claim it is water resistance. I shall not test it yet.
Here is a picture of it:

I bought a pair of Philips HE306 earphones for $4 and have yet to test it.
The last item I bought is a 2 metre LAN cable($1.80 cheap )” />” />.

Too bad I cannot find any BT headset for $30.
Ha ha I think I am asking too much )

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

by Leion on Nov.26, 2005, under Movies

We are supposed to watch the movie at science center but due to her project work, we could not make it. The tickets have gone to waste.

We watched the movie nonetheless at Jurong Point at night. As ususal, we are subjected to a long series of advertisements by GV. I saw a few people’s bags ransacked by the GV staff. Sigh feel like criminal when I go in.

The movie effects has been good. No wonder they beamed the movie to some space station for 2 space man to watch… I enjoyed the movie.

Let’s wait for the half blood prince )

Principles of Law

by Leion on Nov.24, 2005, under NTU

This is the last paper of this sem. Like my first paper, this is a open book exam.

Law has been one interesting subject. The lecturer, Mr Ram is a funny teacher. I always look forward to seeing him and listening to his funny and interesting examples. They aid in my remembering and understandings of the topic.

Today’s paper followed the past year papers format. The paper is neither more difficult nor easier. I spent the bulk of the time copying from the textbook.

The end of this paper marks the end of studying for this year. This marks the beginning of the continuation of my FYP work. Sigh. I have to work in this reduced holiday, which effectively mean I have no holiday (

Parallel Processing

by Leion on Nov.22, 2005, under NTU

This course has brought new insights into the world of programming. Ways to improve algo and how to do things more efficiently. I like this course.

Today’s exam paper generally follows the past year paper’s format. Only the OpenMP is new. OpenMP, which I have speculated not to be examined came out today. I have not read on it after the quiz a few weeks ago. So I am not prepared for it.

The first 2 questions was not too tough. Exam stress has made me underperformed. I sudddenly forget about the binary search, which I know so well. I did a sequential search instead and thought that I have baged the 9 marks allocated for this question. It was only after discussion with my friends that revealed my silly mistake. I am disappointed with myself for the losing of marks here.

I am very unsure of the last question. Hopefully I can get some marks with my scribbles. Hope that I can get a B for this paper. Sigh, its always the same feeling after every paper. The feeling that I would be able to do better should I spend more time to seriously prepare for the exams……. Well, I deserve whatever I get for the effort I put in.

AI statistics reviewed!

by Leion on Nov.18, 2005, under NTU

This is a continuation to a previous post.

Dr Michel Pasquier, the AI lecturer seems to have finished marking that paper. It has been almost 2 weeks and I must say that he IS very efficient.

?Good News Bad News

This
document provides detailed feedback about the AI examination paper set
in 2005-2006 S1. As was the case last year, it starts with some general
comments and statistics and continues with a rather comprehensive list of the errors observed in answers to the 4 questions (Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4)” />.

The overall outcome of the paper was a pleasant surprise.
The paper was neither harder nor easier than previous ones though,
hence the improvement originates elsewhere. For one thing, I observed
far fewer “silly mistakes” than before, and also it would seem most
have done their homework this time, as basic AI concepts have been
understood well enough. Hopefully all the efforts put into all these
exam paper notes is starting to pay off… Not much to comment or
complain about then – especially since I have now created a separate
document elaborating on the
