Ceremony 13 on Friday.

My session was in the morning. On the whole, I think the ceremony was not organised as efficiently as it could be. Maybe it is because I had attended a convocation session in NUS so I could make a comparison. I think it is very laughable that we, the graduates, have to pass our names on cards to a marshaller right after we stepped on the stage so that our names could be read out correctly when we go and shake hands. Where are the computers that accompanied us, Computer Engineers? We have turned back to stone age. Our names could not be displayed on screen because of some known reasons as well.

There were no signs to tell the guest where to get more refreshments, which was located at the new Biological block.

OK enough said about the bad management. I had a enjoyable time taking pictures with my friends. I missed out many of my friends with whom I had wanted to take pictures. I did not have the opportunity to take a group photo with my group of buddies as well.

I met up with my ME friends as well for another photo taking session.

Overall, I enjoyed my time at school.

Today is my FYP presentation.
I went into the room and had a little chat with my supervisor while I set up my laptop. She commented that I looked good. In fact this the first time she saw me in a shirt and pants. I wonder if this was a praise.

The examiner came in while I was still setting up and asked me if I had returned him my report. Yes I did. He lost it. That was only the beginning of the ordeal. He bombarded me with many questions while I was presenting. Thank goodness I have my supervisor with me. She helped me fend of many of his attacks. By the time I got to the questions and answer, he had none left.

Before he go, he told me that he did not treat me in any special way. Harsh is just his style. My supervisor told me that she had seen him being more harsh on other students. I had to agree with her.

Now that the presentation is over, I just have to wait for the results before I graduate from NTU. Hope I can get a good enough grade so that I can get a 2nd upper class…..

Simulation and modelling.

This is the last paper for me in NTU School of Computer Engineering.

This paper involves much memorising work, which I did not prepare much. Even so, I am confident that I can pass this paper. Though I have heard of how others feel after their last paper, when the paper is over, I do not feel anything special. This is just the end of yet another paper for me. My friends have the same thoughts.

After the paper, me and my buddies went to JP for lunch. Set meals at Billy Bombers. We will be going back there soon. Because we were given 1 for 1 vouchers for the $97 spent there.

OK. Now the final hurdle before I concentrate on my job hunt is the FYP presentation on Monday. Hope I will not screw it up

Law has been one interesting subject. The lecturer, Mr Ram is a funny teacher. I always look forward to seeing him and listening to his funny and interesting examples. They aid in my remembering and understandings of the topic.

Today’s paper followed the past year papers format. The paper is neither more difficult nor easier. I spent the bulk of the time copying from the textbook.

The end of this paper marks the end of studying for this year. This marks the beginning of the continuation of my FYP work. Sigh. I have to work in this reduced holiday, which effectively mean I have no holiday

This course has brought new insights into the world of programming. Ways to improve algo and how to do things more efficiently. I like this course.

Today’s exam paper generally follows the past year paper’s format. Only the OpenMP is new. OpenMP, which I have speculated not to be examined came out today. I have not read on it after the quiz a few weeks ago. So I am not prepared for it.

The first 2 questions was not too tough. Exam stress has made me underperformed. I sudddenly forget about the binary search, which I know so well. I did a sequential search instead and thought that I have baged the 9 marks allocated for this question. It was only after discussion with my friends that revealed my silly mistake. I am disappointed with myself for the losing of marks here.

I am very unsure of the last question. Hopefully I can get some marks with my scribbles. Hope that I can get a B for this paper. Sigh, its always the same feeling after every paper. The feeling that I would be able to do better should I spend more time to seriously prepare for the exams……. Well, I deserve whatever I get for the effort I put in.

This
document provides detailed feedback about the AI examination paper set
in 2005-2006 S1. As was the case last year, it starts with some general
comments and statistics and continues with a rather comprehensive list of the errors observed in answers to the 4 questions (Q1, Q2, Q3, and Q4)” />.

The overall outcome of the paper was a pleasant surprise.
The paper was neither harder nor easier than previous ones though,
hence the improvement originates elsewhere. For one thing, I observed
far fewer “silly mistakes” than before, and also it would seem most
have done their homework this time, as basic AI concepts have been
understood well enough. Hopefully all the efforts put into all these
exam paper notes is starting to pay off… Not much to comment or
complain about then – especially since I have now created a separate
document elaborating on the <!--C2i__ –>Cardinal Rules of Problem Solving – needless to say a much recommended reading.

are italicized for easy identification and the relevant part of the
question is quoted where appropriate. Errors that clearly denote a
fundamental lack of study are deemed unacceptable errors and emphasized as such.

This was the 2nd open book (and open notes) AI exam.

This year the AI course featured as a 3rd-year subject (CSC304) for the first time.

129 students were present in the exam hall, with only 1 absentee -
that is, all 20 CSC304 students and 109 out of 110 SC430 students.

I didn’t count this time but nearly everyone brought in the textbook – AIMA 2e exclusively it seems.

Everyone also brought their notes along – anotated slides,
tutorials… Yet it seems students did travel much lighter than the
previous year (not a single trolley in sight

With but a few exceptions, nobody spent much time consulting the
material, which is a good thing. As mentioned elsewhere the only way to
get a really good grade is to know your stuff. Text and notes are there
just in case, but should be used as little as possible.

Overall results

I have always complained to my friends about how the lecturer not knowing how to teach and having lousy notes. Indeed. Everyone is saying the same thing.

Today is the exams. Least the tuitorial question that I was forced to do for presentation, I did not do any practise for this exam. (Actually, I did no practise at all for all my exams this sem)

Today’s exam is not that tough. Not as tough as the previous sem’s exam questions. As usual, I did not prepare sufficiently for it. However, I am glad that I am still able to do many of the questions, though not perfectly correct.

I am confident that I should be able to pass. This is the 3rd and middle paper this sem. Next will be Parallel Processing. This is not as easy as it seems. I have chosen all the difficult subjects……….

Though I have always complained that I do not know what the course is about, I feel that the exam is surprisingly easy. Again, I did not put in enough effort to be able to do all the questions confidently, I am please to say that I can do most of the questions and have a high chance of them correct.

And YES I do feel cold in this exam as compared to my AI exam yesterday. I think the reason should be that this paper did not generate that much emotional outburst that spurs my body to generate the warmth to keep me from feeling chill. Well, I have to admit that I have 30 minutes to check my paper after doing all the questions that I know, or sort of know how to do. Some questions, don’t know means don’t know hahaa… This, is just a reinforcement of what was said before. I did not prepare enough. Getting lazy in memorising the formulee and theory.

Hopefully the grades will agree with what I have said here.
