Software
OpenOffice

I have decided to embrace Open Office for my laptop though I know 99.99% of the people here are still using MS Office, I still think I wanna give this freeware a try.
I have tried to use it to open many documents and powerpoint slides without problems.
I almost think that it can be used to replace the whole of the MS Office when just now, I get a excel spreadsheet from a friend. He has generatered a few graphs in the excel file.
I opened the xls file with OO calc and I was thinking why did he not generate the graph fully and I was actually trying to redo the graphs… I am never a excel person, not to say the calc person. I spend like 1 hour plus trying to generate the graphs again and again, only to fail terribly. Finally I remembered that I should open the file in MS Office to see if my calc has opened the file as what my friend had wanted me to see.
I on my home PC and opened the file. OH YES!
The graphs are different on the 2 systems!
How I hate myself for doing extra ZERO work. I could have been sleeping if not for my lousy mistake!
I hope the OO can open the MS Office files more accurately next time….
Meanwhile, I will still stick to my OO on my laptop. I am beginning to love the difference!
Do you like me?

Do you like me?
I may not know.
Or am I bothering you?
I do have a way of finding out….
If you are chatting with your friend online, then will you close the chat window whilst the chat is still going on? No I think. But what are the reasons to do so?
I have come up with a few:
- You are busy and the chat is hindering your work.
- You do not like your chatter.
- Your taskbar is too overcrowded with programs…
- You are at somewhere, where you do not wan others to know that you are chatting
- Being seen chatting with this chatter is embarrassing.
Most of us are users of msn messenger and we do not have a way to know if the other party has been closing that chat window….
Look at this:

This is GAIM
It is a 3rd party messenger client for MSN, ICQ and other chat networks.
This is what I use when I log into my Ubuntu OS.
Sometimes I see the windows closing information I will take that the person is busy. But if I see it all the time, I know about my status in that person's mind? ![]()

My friend, Amos, installed a beta version of Vista or better known as long horn. according to him, the IE7 looks very much like firefox…… haha I agree with him too… the desktop looks very much the same as the winxp now.. Maybe the official release will have more to offer…

Portable Firefox

Oh yes!
It has been my dream to have my firefox with me whereever I go, with the same settings and extensions that I have on my home computer. Now, I have it!
The program is called portable firefox.
Download from here: http://johnhaller.com/jh/mozilla/portable_firefox/
It is a zip file. Just unzip the files and copy your profiles settings into the profile folder of the zip. Launch the portable firefox program and we are free to surf the net with our very own settings and extensions!
Cool! Keep up the good work! ![]()
