I was looking around for alternative ways of blogging when I found Post2Blog.

Downloaded this program, installed and am now using it to type out this post. The WYSIWYG editor seems to be even more user friendly compared to the editor that comes with my WordPress . This tool will come in handy for blogging offline. Though this is not exactly what I was looking for, I am amazed by the sheer number of blogging platform Post2Blog supports, assuming that it really works for all of them.

Now, I am still looking for a good way to blog via email. The built in email program that comes with WordPress does not work with gmail. The Postie plugin that everyone is recommending does not seem to work with gmail as well. I tried my ISP email with both to no avail too.

It will still be good to be able to blog using email. Hope any kind soul can help me with this.

It’s another new upgrade!

I had been looking forward to the upgrade for there is a better built in WYSISYG editor. I endured the urge to upgrade it on the day it was released. I had the fear that something might go wrong. True enough, when I upgraded it just now, the editor could not work as advertised. The java script could not work in my firefox nor IE. Hence I was left with a notepad for my editor. It is strange that FF does not complain an error while IE complained an error in the scripts.

I looked around the forums and find that many people had the same problem as I had. I was lucky that I was able to find the solution from one of the threads. An additional condition is needed in one of the logic in tiny_mce_gzip.php.

Taken from the solution page, line 131 should be modified to include one more conditional checking.

FILE           : wp-includes/js/tinymce/tiny_mce_gzip.php
LINE           : 131
CHANGES : if ((in_array(‘gzip’, $encodings) || in_array(‘x-gzip’, $encodings) || isset($_SERVER['---------------'])) && function_exists(‘ob_gzhandler’) && !ini_get(‘zlib.output_compression’)<ins> && get_settings(‘gzipcompression’)</ins>) {

The new condition to be added is in bold and underlined.

After I have applied the changes and uploaded the file, my brand new editor is up.

Nice autosaving and the tabbed switching is very much welcomed. Now I can do away with html editing with Dreamweaver.

This aims to describe the steps in getting a human readable Google sitemap into the WordPress blogging system. First of all, download the google sitemap generator plugin.

NOTE: If you downloaded version 3.1.0.1 or newer, you may skip the steps below. The new version already support the human-readableness out of the box. The information below is applicable only for the older versions.

Open up the php file, look for line 1100 for this line.

$s.="<!-- sitemap-generator-url=\"http://www.arnebrachhold.de\" sitemap-generator-version=\"2.7.1\"  -->\n";

Add the following line after it.

$s.="<?xml-stylesheet type=\"text/xsl\" hr

ef=\"gss.xsl\"?>\n";

Now save the file, upload and activate it.

Make a sitemap.xml file on the blog root and make it writable.

Download the gss.xsl stylesheet to display the xml file. Read more about the style sheet here.

Save it to the same location as your sitemap.

Now, edit the .htaccess file and add at the bottom the following:

AddType application/xml .xsl

Now the stylesheet can can be viewed when it is opened. So you can just add it to your page as a regular link. I put mine in the sidebar. The sitemap can be read by humans and google bots now!

I have installed this GUI editor a few weeks ago. And today I finally tweak it to my own liking. Now I have enabled some simple controls in the comments section and I have tweaked the TinyMCE to able the posting of youtube videos.

What I did was to go to the options and added "embed,-param[name|value]" into the custom html list. I got the idea from this tutorial . I am happy that I am able to put youtube videos now without the code disappearing from the entry again.

I like control.
