My linksys WRT54GC failed me after 4 good years and after much research and ponder, I finally got myself the Asus WL520GU wireless router for $85. It comes with a usb connector for printer server. The interface of original firmware( version 3.0.0.8) for this router is better than that in Linksys. I like the QoS function of this router. Best of all, the firmware can be flashed with more functionality!

After deliberating for a week, I finally decided to give it a go and flash the router with a open source firmware and risking breaking the brand new router. All is good. Now I have better functionality and Network Attached Storage(NAS) capability with the router. I have yet to test the ftp with the NAS. I do not have much use for this function yet but the ability to have this thrills me nonetheless. Somehow, I can feel the speedier connection on the new firmware already.

Below are the steps that I have taken to flash and upgrade my router.

Set the router’s ip as 192.168.1.1

Set static ip for your computer as 192.168.1.10, mask 255.255.255.0 and connect to the router via lan port 1

Download the NEWD_mini_asus.trx and the NEWD_mini_usb_ftp.bin files from here

Flash the firmware: Pull the power of the router while pushing the reset button. Release when the power button is flashing

Use the Asus firmware restore tool and upload the NEWD_mini_asus.trx file

After the flash is successful, log in to the router via telnet: root/admin

Type the following commands to reset the user settings: erase nvram then reboot

Open up the browser and surf to 192.168.1.1

A password page will come up, just skip and go Administration tab, then choose Firmware upgrade

Now upload the NEWD_mini_usb_ftp.bin file for the real thing.

Wait for the upload to complete before returning to 192.168.1.1

Save a new username and password. The new router is ready to fly

It was a last minute decision to watch the X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie. We watched it at a Eng Wah cinema. I like the cinema because I was not forced to watch 20 minutes of advertisements. In fact, I think there was none before this movie started.

Before this, I do know know that Wolverine had his claws since young. Or that Sabertooth were his brother (Just found out this is a movie plot and not following the comic). There was not alot of actions for this movie. There was a part when Gambit was hit to the ground by Wolverine. Then for no apparent reason, he came running and jumping from a tall building before attacking Wolverine. I think there was a serious mistake in here.

Read that his girlfriend is called Silverfox. I do not know much about this character but too little screen time is given for her. Nothing was said of how they met, and how come Wolverine did not know about her powers. I thought it would be good to see the powers of the other mutants. Well, I think there was no more budget after introducing the polished claws.

Overall, I think the show served its entertainment purpose, but it did not awe me with any effects or plot.

I think the humor is not of my frequency. The story is about a femine guy who had his dreams in the music industry. He end up being the main vocal in a death metal band called Detroit Metal City. He is a totally different person behind his thick make up. This show seems to suggest that one can do well even if he totally dislike what he is doing. Not worthy a watch I say.

Your view on yourself:

Other people find you very interesting, but you are really hiding your true self. Your friends love you because you are a good listener. They’ll probably still love you if you learn to be yourself with them.

The type of girlfriend/boyfriend you are looking for:

You like serious, smart and determined people. You don’t judge a book by its cover, so good-looking people aren’t necessarily your style. This makes you an attractive person in many people’s eyes.

Your readiness to commit to a relationship:

You prefer to get to know a person very well before deciding whether you will commit to the relationship.

The seriousness of your love:

You are very serious about relationships and aren’t interested in wasting time with people you don’t really like. If you meet the right person, you will fall deeply and beautifully in love.

Your views on education

Education is less important than the real world out there, away from the classroom. Deep inside you want to start working, earning money and living on your own.

The right job for you:

You have many goals and want to achieve as much as you can. The jobs you enjoy are those that let you burn off your considerable excess energy.

How do you view success:

You are afraid of failure and scared to have a go at the career you would like to have in case you don’t succeed. Don’t give up when you haven’t yet even started! Be courageous.

What are you most afraid of:

You are concerned about your image and the way others see you. This means that you try very hard to be accepted by other people. It’s time for you to believe in who you are, not what you wear.

Who is your true self:

You like privacy very much because you enjoy spending time with your own thoughts. You like to disappear when you cannot find solutions to your own problems, but you would feel better if you learned to share your thoughts with a person you trust.

At the beginning, the film started with some interesting physics experiment to display the inteligence of one of the main characters. The murder scene was shown in the movie, leaving no room for ancitipation of what happened. The mystery is how a maths genius managed to help to cover up the murder. I find the pace a tat too slow. Maybe it was due to Mr-breath-hard-to-keep-alive beside me, I do not enjoy the movie very much towards the end.

From the title and the movie description, this is a movie which will not catch my eye. I would not have caught this movie if I had not gotten the free tickets from GV. I won a pair of tickets to the sneak preview of this Japanese Okuribito Departures movie. Sasco and I were slightly late and the small movie hall was almost full. We had a bad seating position at the second row from the screen. Though the view is not that good, I must say I was very lucky to have watched this movie. This is one of the best movie I have watched in a long long time.

The story is about a man Daijo who had lost his job in Tokyo. He moved back to his home town with his wife where he found job dealing with dead people. The director is good in adding humour at the beginning of the film and caught my attention, otherwise we would have left the cinema already. As the humour subsided, the sadness flowed in. I can feel the sorrow of death from this movie.

I recommend watching this movie but bring some tissue paper along.

The size of this drive is the drawing factor for me in deciding to get online and wait for almost a month. I had placed my order for this on the 3rd of January and only received this today. I like the fact that this is about the size of 2 ten cents coins and a spacious 8GB storage. This is 32 times my first thumbdrive!

I hope this drive can be lasting and I will not misplace this tiny drive.
