It has been ages since I last update this site. Lots have changed: the passing of a family member and I have gotten a new member into the family. The life’s test is on going. I will aim to pass with distinction. Go Go Go!

The celebrations with food

It just occurred to me that we celebrate the start of life with food. We do the same when a life ended. For both, the intended recipient never get to enjoy any of the food. This is an irony.

A new chapter

An eventful month. I have upgraded both my day job as well as my relationship status. The future is exciting and I am working towards a brighter future!

TP-Link router: TL-WR842ND

My old router has failed me after 3 years of use, late one evening. I took the impromptu decision to get an replacement before the shops close and got this TP-Link 300Mbps Multi-Function Wireless N Router (Model TL-WR842ND).

Out of box, the router has quite a few features, like USB printing, multiple SSID and QoS. There are cheaper routers around, but I chose this router for the USB printing and the QoS features.

The router came with set-up CDs, which is required for normal set up. However, it was required for the set up of the printer. I hooked up the printer to the router and got the printer working. Nice. Next I proceed to use the scanner. Alas, the scanner feature is not detected. Hence my multifunction printer can only be used for printing if I kept the set up. This is not acceptable and I have to revert to my original set up of connecting the printer to my desktop. This is not a deal breaker.

I went ahead to set up my router router on the QoS, which is the main feature I looked for in routers. I need this to ensure my users in my network can get the best video streaming quality even when I need to do some occasion heavy downloads. QoS is the number one feature needed in any routers.

After looking into the interface, and reading the manuals, I could not find any dd-wrt style QoS where I can set the priority of ports and services. The closest I can find is the setting of IP, ports and min and max downloads. I say this is a lousy implementation of QoS. Now I need to set up all the ports and IP addresses for video streaming? Are you kidding me? I hope the company can come up with some firmware upgrades to plug gap. I bought this mostly for the QoS what was printed in huge font on the packaging. (“IP QoS” on the packaging)

I advise all who are looking for real QoS to shun this router. At the time of posting, there is no support for dd-wrt yet hence I am stuck with the router with no QoS for some time.

In this new year, I want to do more investment, especially in myself. It is high time I get some improvements in myself and my skills – spiritually and physically! Time to hit the books and get some brain workout!

???, ???????? is a very light hearted movie about puppy love and how a group of guys liked and woo-ed the top girl student in their class. There were many jokes about the male organ but I especially like the uncertain period of romance in all relationship. Too bad in this relationship for the main characters in the movie, the romance did not blossom. They almost got together but broke off for a silly reason. No happy ending to all movies. I am still disturbed by this. However, it is also this element that helped to relate the story to the audience’s real live experience.

Towards the end, the male character suggested that in an alternate universe, he and that female lead might be together. This got me thinking…

This movie is good. I recommend watching?

In Time

In Time is a futuristic movie where by people use time of their life as currency. The rich has all the time in the world and they can live forever. The poor struggle and live from hand to mouth. I think this movie reflected the current situation. There was not meaningful ending but gave some food for thought. Something to ponder about.

Real Steel

I went in to watch Real Steel thinking that this will be a mediocre movie. Boy I was wrong. This movie is awesome. I got excited over the movie that I felt hot in the air-conditioned cinema.

The Thing

This is the first movie I watched with B. I went in to the movie with quite high expectations on it. In the end, the story line was weak and the effects were nothing to boast about. B agreed that the movie was not up to her exceptions as well. But I am glad for the great company.

Vocation change update

It has been a flash and I am already 4 months into my new vocation. I must say that I am more or less settled into the new environment.

Things change fast. Of the 2 colleagues I am most comfortable working with, one has left and one is going to leave. By next month, I will be the the most senior member in the team, besides the team leader. This is not something I expect, but I am here to learn. I shall take anything that comes my way.

Hello Ghost

I saw the Hello Ghost movie poster and told myself I want to watch this. No. The poster was not attractive, but it just caught my eye. I managed to get free tickets for this movie which helped ensure I watch this.

The show was rather fast paced with a man trying to kill himself. He was always unsuccessful. The last time he tried, he was rescued and found out he could see ghosts. He saw 4 of them. All 4 of them keep sticking to him which made him frustrated and he decided to grant them one wish each to help them settle their unsettled worldly matters. There are bits and pieces of funny scenes as the man’s body was taken over by the ghosts. The way he helped the ghosts is presented like short stories. Every relating to him and the ghost, as well as a female nurse whom the main lead liked. I got a little bored towards the 4th ghost’s quest as all the requests seemed lame.

There was a sudden twist in the story line after the main lead shouted for all the ghosts to get out of his life. At this point, everything become reasonable and clear. It was a touching moment. From this point onwards to the end, the whole cinema was filled with sobs. I can hear half the cinema crying. The show is this touching. I shall not reveal the spoiler here. Go find out yourself.

I recommend it strongly

Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides

This is the 4th part to the Pirates series and I caught only the first and the second of the series. Truthfully, I went into the cinema without a gist of what the story will be like. Before the movie started, I was trying to recall about the first 2 parts of the series but nothing was recalled.

The show was interesting with Johnny Depp as the pirate captain. He is witty and funny and the reason for me to catch the show. A side note: The Spanish lady in the show is hot.
